The Definitive Ranking of Your Favorite Breakfast Cereals

Breakfast Cereals

One of the best reasons to wake up in the morning is to have a bowl of cereal. It’s something that resonates not only with our hunger pains, but our beloved memories, as many of us grew up enjoying a nice bowl with a side of Saturday morning cartoons. But have you ever wondered what the best cereal out there is? We’ve done the delicious dirty work trying them out, and here’s what we’ve decided, from worst to first.

Raisin Bran

Raisin Bran

There is NO WAY anyone not signed up for AARP like this cereal. It has raisins. We’re not against healthier cereals but come on - raisins? If we wanted trail mix for breakfast, we would’ve grabbed trail mix.

Wheaties

Wheaties

They trick you with the “breakfast of champions” thing, but in all honesty it’s not the best tasting when it all boils down. It’s a little too bland for my taste… but hey - at least healthy! Or is it?

Honey Smacks

Honey Smacks

What have we learned from hours of Chopped? We eat with our eyes first. With that, these look like beetles. We are not Timon and Pumba from The Lion King, so yeah we’re going to pass on the Honey Smacks.

Honey Bunches of Oats

Honey Bunches of Oats

This one’s a toss up. Those who love it, really love it. And those who don’t, really don’t. Personally, I think it tastes more like trail mix than cereal. What do you think?

Corn Pops

Corn Pops

They are a bit waxy. You should never eat anything that looks like it spawned from a candle.

Apple Jacks

Apple Jacks

These are good, but are they great? Not really. They aren’t the best in the world but they are better than bunches and raisins.

Special K

Special K

Totally not hating on these for being the healthy choice, but if you are a younger person - they may taste a little funky. These would have to be the wine of cereal because with age of those eating, these taste a hell of a lot better.

Cap’n Crunch

Cap’n Crunch

No disrespect to a naval officer or anything, but these leave the funkiest feeling on the roof of your mouth after consumption. With that, they can’t be trusted. The only reason we’re giving them a little push ahead of some others is because when the berries are added, we can forgive the funk just a bit.

Rice Chex

Rice Chex

Kind of boring in the grand scheme of things, but if you add a ton of sugar to the bowl - wonderful. It tastes much better when it’s part of trail mix than when it’s eaten as a breakfast cereal.

Reese’s Puffs

Reese’s Puffs

Taking one of the best candies out there and putting it into peanut buttery goodness cereal form? Yes please! I just love the peanut butter and chocolate milk afterwards… don’t you?

Boo-Berry

Boo-Berry

A special treat that I cannot wait for each year. This cereal has me wishing it was Halloween all year round.

Waffle Crisp

Waffle Crisp

These days people may know this brand’s lower-costing cousin that goes by Waffle Crunch, but that’s not who is making an appearance today. Today our attention and admiration goes towards the version that took the world by storm when it hit shelves in 1996. Waffles on their own are okay, so how they became immensely better in cereal form was a damn miracle in a bowl.

Cheerios

Cheerios

While the OG kind may fall flat for those who love sweets, we give this one major props for having a wide variety to choose from. Without good old fashioned Cheerios the world would have never have had Honey Nut, Multi-Grain and more.

Cocoa Puffs

Cocoa Puffs

After all these years we are still cuckoo for those damn Puffs, aren’t we? Can’t go wrong with sweet chocolate milk either!

Honeycomb

Honeycomb

Represented by a hairball, you’d think many would’ve shied away from this one. Think again. A subtle taste of nature’s candy - honey - in a fun shape…YES!

Rice Krispies

Rice Krispies

The best part about this one, other than the obvious cool sound effects made when milk is added? The fact that you can easily turn this into one of the best treats when you add marshmallows and then some. Try substituting the milk for marshmallows and butter, then microwave it for a little bit for easy microwavable rice krispies treats!

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Crunchy Toasted Cinnamon never tasted so good. Sweet horchata-like milk drink afterwards? Yum!

Frosted Mini-Wheats

Frosted Mini-Wheats

This is the healthiest of the top cereals in our rankings. Sure sometimes this one can make you feel a little like you’re eating horse food, but that moment when you score a mini-wheat that was more frosted than wheat…you knew you were going to have a good day.

Trix

Trix

We totally bought into the fact these were just for kids. That was until we got older, browsed the cereal aisle and said, screw it - this is what I want! The only fallback is that they aren’t in those fun, fruity shapes anymore.

Frosted Flakes

Frosted Flakes

Tony the Tiger doesn’t lie, and neither do we. These will always be g-r-r-r-reat! Seriously though, these are like Wheaties’ cooler cousin in so many ways it’s not even funny.

Froot Loops

Froot Loops

Those circular rings of fruity decadence and the way they made the milk taste afterwards - all good in the hood.

Cocoa Pebbles

Cocoa Pebbles

The Flintstones cannot steer you wrong when it comes to cereal choice. Plus, like with the aforementioned Fruit Loops, the milk after some Pebbles is stunning.

Lucky Charms

Lucky Charms

IT HAS ACTUAL MARSHMALLOWS IN IT. Sorry for the screaming, but hello people! This lets you have marshmallows for breakfast in the morning like it’s okay. Kids love it. Adults love it. What’s not to love?

Cookie Crisp

Let’s be honest right now. A box of this didn’t last more than two days max when your mom walked in with it…and it still doesn’t now that you’re older. Cookies transformed into a mini cookies and milk situation - that’s the perfect combination for a bowl of cereal, forever and always. Cereal is a meal we can all agree on, but when it comes to which is the best - now that can spark quite the debate. Did your favorite make the list?
