The Best Sangria

Ingredients

  • 2 (750 mL) bottles dry red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot
  • 1 cup brandy
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 1 pound strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 3 oranges, thinly sliced
  • 3 limes, thinly sliced
  • 2 lemons, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups fresh arugula
  • (optional) 1 can lemon-lime soda

Preparation

  1. Stir together wine, brandy, sugar and orange liqueur in large pitcher, until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Stir in the arugula, and crush the arugula so that the flavor is released. You can use a wooden spoon if you have one.
  3. Next, add strawberries, lime, lemon and orange to the wine mixture, and lightly mull the fruit to release juices.
  4. Cover and refrigerate. Stir in soda if desired, then strain and serve over ice.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 apple, cored, skin on, chopped into small pieces
  • 1/2 orange, rind on, sliced into small pieces, large seeds removed (plus more for garnish)
  • 3-4 Tbsp (41-55 g) organic brown sugar (or 3 Tbsp (37.5 g) organic cane sugar)
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) orange juice, plus more to taste
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) brandy, plus more to taste
  • 1 750 ml bottle dry Spanish red wine*
  • Ice to chill (~1 cup)

Preparation

  1. Add apples, oranges and sugar to a large pitcher and muddle with a wooden spoon for 45 seconds.
  2. Next, add orange juice and brandy and muddle again to combine for 30 seconds. Then add red wine and stir to incorporate.
  3. Taste and adjust flavor as needed.
  4. Add ice and stir once more to chill. Serve as is, or with a bit more ice. Garnish with orange segments.
  5. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, though best when fresh.

  • 3/8 cup of brandy
  • 1 cup of water with two (2) large scoops of orange juice concentrate

  • 1 750 ml bottle (standard) champagne or prosecco
  • 2 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup club soda
  • 1/2 cup Disaronno
  • 2 apples, sliced
  • Cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Preparation

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the champagne (or prosecco), apple cider, club soda, and Disaronna.
  2. Stir until mixed and add in sliced apples.
  3. Pour and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Citrus Sangria

Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups (26 fl. oz) dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup (4 fl. oz) Cointreau
  • 1/2 cup (4 fl. oz) brandy
  • Juice of 1 large orange
  • Juice of 1 medium lemon
  • Juice of 1 medium lime
  • 2 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar
  • Club soda
  • 1 small orange, sliced thin crosswise
  • 1 small lemon, sliced thin crosswise
  • 1 small lime, sliced thin crosswise

Preparation

  1. Mix the wine, Cointreau, brandy, citrus juices, and sugar in a large pitcher. Refrigerate overnight.
  2. Immediately before serving, add in the club soda, orange, lemon, and lime slices. Serve over ice cubes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (8 fl. oz) water
  • 1 small bunch fresh mint
  • 1/2 cup (3 1/2 oz) sugar
  • 3 cloves
  • 4 short cinnamon sticks
  • 3 1/4 cups (26 fl. oz) dry white wine
  • 2 cups (16 fl. oz) sparkling apple cider
  • 1/2 cup (4 fl. oz) orange juice
  • 2 small apples, cut into chunks
  • 2 small oranges, sliced thin crosswise
  • 2 small peaches, peeled and cut into chunks

Preparation

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, mint, sugar, cloves and cinnamon sticks over medium heat. Allow to simmer for roughly 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from the heat, and allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature.
  3. Remove and discard the mint leaves, cloves, and cinnamon sticks, and pour the mixture into a large serving pitcher.
  4. Mix in all of the remaining ingredients, cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Serve chilled, over ice cubes.
