5 Simple Ways To Cook A Fish

If you’re getting tired of the same-old, same-old, listen up. There are all kinds of ways to cook a fish. Here are five ways you can prepare it differently.

Steamed Fish

Pair the fish with a sauce that will make it stand out. Steaming is the most gentle way to cook fish.

Preparation

  1. Rub the fish with spices, perhaps chopped herbs, ginger, garlic, or chile peppers to infuse with flavor while it cooks.
  2. Use a steamer with enough room for each piece of fish to lie completely flat
  3. Pour about 1½ inches of water into the pan.
  4. Place the steamer over the water, cover the pot, and bring the water to a boil.
  5. Begin checking the fish after 10 minutes to make sure it’s cooked all the way through

Poached Fish

Another gentle way to cook fish it to poach it. It won’t lose any of its delicious taste.

Preparation

  1. Use a pan big enough to lay each piece of fish completely flat
  2. Pour in enough liquid to cover the fish (we suggest chicken or vegetable stock)
  3. Bring the liquid to a simmer, and keep it there.
  4. The liquid should simmer rather than bubble. Turn the temperature down if you see it bubbling.

Grilled Fish

With spring arriving, this is a great option to cook your fish.

Preparation

  1. Brush the fish lightly with oil or spray on each side
  2. Place fish near the edge of the grill, away from the hottest part of the fire
  3. Start checking for color and doneness after a few minutes, once the fish starts to release some of its juices. It usually only takes a few minutes per side to be done.
  4. Flip the fish over when you see light grill marks forming.

Broiled Fish

This option is great for simple and hassle-free results. You can try this option when the weather isn’t great for grilling.

Preparation

  • Follow the instructions for basic grilling (few minutes each side)
  • Line the broiler pan with a piece of foil

Baked Fish

This fish will taste crunchy and may not be the healthiest option, just so you know. Careful with the butter and oil.

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Lightly grease or spray baking dish
  3. Rinse fish and pat dry.
  4. Combine melted butter, lemon juice, garlic, sugar, pepper, thyme, and parsley in small bowl if you desire
  5. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until done
